PRP Treatment for Hair Loss

Patient is receiving 1st PRP treatment for hair loss!

What is PRP? Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy uses your body’s own platelet-rich plasma to repair damaged tissues and create new, healthy cells. Plasma is a component in your blood that contains special growth factors, which help repair tissue damage and promote healing. When injected in the problem area, PRP helps speed up the healing process, so your body recovers faster. PRP is an injection treatment that uses a person’s own blood as regenerate therapy to stimulate and strengthen hair follicle growth.

How does PRP work? The process begins with taking a vial of a patient’s blood. The blood is then drawn into a syringe and spun down in centrifuge to separate its components (red blood cells, platelet rich plasma, and plasma). The concentrated platelet-rich plasma is extracted and then injected into hair follicles.

Dr. David believes PRP used for aesthetic procedures or joint repair is safe and effective. He recommends a combination of PRP injections plus a prescription hair loss topical solution to promote new hair growth. Dr. David has seen improvements in as little as 6 months. Patients typically only need 2-3 PRP treatments and the appointments are spaced out every couple of months.

Why PRP for hair loss? When injecting PRP into the scalp stem cells are stimulated and in return generate new tissue. When this happens the hair follicles begin to grow new hair and fill in the areas on the scalp that are thinning. Dr. David strongly suggests trying PRP for hair restoration before considering hair transplant surgery.

How much does PRP cost? When it comes to hair loss, most people assume a hair transplant is their only option. However, hair transplants can be quite expensive and can vary from $4,000 to $15,000. Most costs are out of pocket since some insurance companies will not cover the procedure. At Rise2Health Dr. David offers PRP hair loss treatments for much less than hair transplants. 1 session of PRP is $650 and a 3-session package is $1,600, saving the patient around $350. The prescription hair loss solution is $199 and lasts 30-60 days before needing a refill. Dr. David believes it is always worth trying every treatment option possible before choosing a hair transplant procedure.
